Assistant Head Coach - Competitive Teams


Position Summary: The Assistant Head Coach will work with our highest level athletes and play a crucial role in training, team management, and program development. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of training methodologies, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to youth climbing.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of coaching experience in youth climbing or equivalent work experience

  • Safe Sport Certified

  • USAC Level 2 Coach

  • First Aid/CPR Certified

  • Advanced understanding of climbing techniques, movement skills, and age-appropriate training methodologies

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with athletes, coaches, parents, and gym leadership

  • Excellent group management skills

  • Code Word: Izzy Loves Bacon

  • Understanding of USAC Rules, Regulations, and Policies

  • Experience with USA Climbing competitions, route setting, and/or competitive climbing is preferred but not required

  • Knowledge of RGP a plus

Primary Job Duties:

  • Supervise and facilitate practices for Performance Track (Competitive) Teams as directed by Head Coach

  • Provide direction and feedback to coaching staff as directed by Head Coach

  • Collaborate with the entire coaching staff to provide the best possible experience to all athletes

  • Provide athletes relevant and actionable feedback in a timely manner

  • Communicate the purpose of drills and activities to athletes

  • Maintain participant motivation and enthusiasm

  • Use appropriate channels to communicate program effectiveness and progress with Head Coach

  • Follow and enforce all gym rules and risk management policies

  • Adhere to program disciplinary policies and elevate disciplinary issues to Head Coach as needed

  • Pursue professional development opportunities

  • Attend USA Climbing Qualifying and Championship Level competitions as needed

  • Liaise with the Front Desk Team to facilitate successful program check-in; demonstrate advanced knowledge of RGP when applicable

  • Take initiative in problem-solving and utilize sound judgment; understand when to include management, and in the absence of management, make critical decisions for the well-being of the gym, its users, and staff in areas such as safety, money handling, and customer service; report to supervisor when program-related discrepancies (attendance, payment, etc.) occur

  • Act as an ambassador for the sport of climbing at all times

  • Proudly and positively represent youth programming at MetroRock Climbing Centers, answering questions and speaking with parents as needed
