Intro to Ropes
Are you interested in learning to belay?
Has it been a while since you have last did and need a refresher?
While Metrorock Newburyport is primarily a bouldering gym we also have a small selection of top rope climbs that belay certification will give you access to.
The course is offered every Tuesday at 7:00 PM. We also can try and schedule a course at another time if you reach out to NBPT@metrorock.com and provide a range of availability.
Courses require a minimum of 2 participants. The second participant can just be there to be belayed only if they are too young for class or already certified (and join at no cost).
Group pricing also available. Learning how to belay makes for a great team building outing for schools and businesses alike.
NOTE: Everyone over the age of 14 must pass a belay test to be belayed by another. Exception made for parents belaying their kids under 18 or by managerial approval.

Non-Members | $60; includes 10-day membership, begins the day of your class
Some items you will learn in the course:
Equipment: how to use a harness and belay device
Knots: tying in with a figure 8 follow-through
Belaying: using a locking carabiner and ATC
Commands: how to communicate with your climbing partner
On their next visit after taking this course students are required to take the required MetroRock belay test so come back soon and practice a lot once instruction is over!
Refund Policy: If you need to cancel an event, we offer a full refund if the cancellation occurs 21 days or more before the event. If you are altering your booking within that period, we are happy to offer a credit for use at MetroRock, minus the deposit. We will not offer a refund for no-shows or cancellations within 48 hours before the event.
